Southern Oregon Living: The 2009 Major League Baseball World Series

The 2009 Major League Baseball World Series

2009 Major League Baseball World Series The 2009 Major League Baseball World Series brings back memories from 1 year ago, when my son-in-law and his brother attended a playoff game between the Phillies and the Dodgers in Los Angeles.  I will never forget that night!

I received a call from my daughter, who said that her husband's brother was in the hospital with a broken neck.  Apparently, a drunken "Phillies" fan had fallen over a railing at Dodger Stadium and landed on top of my son-in-law's brother (a few levels below).  The drunken fan walked away with a broken wrist and my son-in-law's brother was wheeled away on a stretcher with a broken neck.    It was a sad and tragic event that changed this young man's life forever!

We continue to pray for this young man as he struggles with simple every day tasks.  It is certainly a wake-up call for all of us, who at times, take our health and the simple things for granted.  Remember to cherish what matters!

That s a horrible story.  You expect that with U.K. soccer, but not in baseball, and especially not at Dodgers Stadium.  I hope he recovers soon.

That's the most bizarre and tragic story I've ever heard.  I'm speechless.

Jane & Gregg ~ I know, it is a bizarre & tragic story!  I have attended many Dodger games in my life and it never occurred to me that this could happen.  Perhaps the railing needs to be raised, and there needs to be more security, and Dodger Stadium should have a tighter policy regarding alcohol service & consumption!

Wow.  What a terrible story! A reminder that The National Past Time seems to now be ...

.....drinking beer at the stadium...any stadium...any sport.  I doesn't seem to matter.

Wow....this amazes me.  It's too bad.  Is he paralyzed?  My brother, a surgeon, was hit 2 years ago and is paralyzed because of the wreckless actions of others.  It's just so wild.

I don't even know what to say after reading your story.  People don't seen to think how their drinking can affect others.  Life is just not fair sometimes!

So true Jim!

Larry ~ How very sad for your brother too!

Thanks Irene.  Unfortunately, "bad things happen to good people."

Zane ~ If only we could recognize how our actions can negatively impact the lives of others.

Melinda- it's Sunday night and I'm getting read to watch the Yankees vs the Phillies.  When I first saw your title, I thought "good idea for a post. Write about the World Series".  However I just completed reading it and I am so sorry for your daughter's brother-in-law.  Prayers and positive thoughts are sent his way. BTW, did the "faller" realize what he did and come forth with any remorse or aid?

I searched for a blog about baseball, never expecting to read such an awful story.  I am also very sorry for this young man and his family.  What a shame.  I really can't stand all that drinking.............it's so senseless.
