The Perks for Brewing Coffee with Cinnamon

Cinnamon CoffeeThe Perks for brewing coffee with cinnamon are like combining apple pie and vanilla ice cream... they just go together.  There's nothing quite like the aroma of freshly brewed coffee with a hint of cinnamon.  If you have never tasted the two together, you should add it to your New Year's Resolution for 2010.

Cinnamon boasts some fabulous health properties.  Studies have shown that just 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL cholesterol.  Several studies suggest that cinnamon regulates blood sugar.  In some studies, cinnamon has shown an amazing ability to stop medication-resistant yeast infections.  And, in a study published by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Maryland, cinnamon reduced the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells.  It has an anti-clotting effect on the blood and it has been shown that it provides significant relief for arthritis sufferers.  When added to food, it inhibits bacterial growth and food spoilage, making it a natural food preservative.  One study found that smelling cinnamon boosts cognitive function and memory.  Researchers at Kansas State University found that cinnamon fights the E. coli bacteria in unpasteurized juices.  Cinnamon is also a great source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.

So, next time you are brewing up your favorite cup of coffee, consider adding a hint of cinnamon.
