The First Day of Summer & My First Kiss! Today is the first day of summer and it reminded me of some events that happened a long time ago. I call them my 'first moments.' My first kiss, my first boyfriend, my first car, my first love, my first child... moments that define who I am.
My first kiss happened in the 6th grade. It came from a cute Oklahoma boy named Bobby Jones who had the most adorable accent. He planted one on me when I least expected it and it was delightfully sweet and tender. A moment I'll never forget. I've often wondered how he came to be such a good kisser at such a young age... lots of practice I presume.
My first boyfriend was 6 foot tall and a handsome beachcomber blonde named Jami. He was a wild child (PK kid) and an exceptional athlete. He charmed me by baking me a chocolate cake for my 15th birthday in the 10th grade (he made the best chocolate chip cookies too). I guess he knew how to win this girl's heart. He was quite adventurous and we had some fun times together!
My first car was a light blue VW bug. I used to hitch-hike to work (30 miles) until my dad found out and gave me my sister's car as a hand-me-down. I loved that car. I could fill the tank on less than $5.00 and it just kept on going. I'll never forget the day I crammed 8 cheerleaders in my VW and drove them to a basketball game... those were the days =)
My first love was a charming New Yorker named Packy who was 7 years older than I. He's a corporate lawyer today... but I knew him when he didn't have a care in the world. He caught my attention by sending me a goldfish named Kilroy... and the rest was just magical. He was handsome, charismatic, witty and an excellent cook. I probably should've married him when he proposed, but I was too young to know what I wanted back then. Oh... what could have been.
My first child was an 8lb, 6oz beautiful girl with huge dark brown eyes, dark brown hair and olive skin. She was stunning at birth, even more stunning today... and incredibly smart, I might add. She's been my pride, joy, best friend, biggest cheerleader, motivator, and mother of my adorable grand-baby. I have a son too, and love him just as much, but there is something very special about a daughter.
I could go on with many more 'first moments'... but suffice to say that I've lived a glorious life with many awesome memories and very few regrets. On this first day of summer, I'm remembering those magical moments from long ago and my heart is bubbling over with warmth and sunshine! Life is good!
