Something Good Is Brewing At Real Estate Cafe! Accepting Active Rain's May Challenge to post a blog everyday, I've decided to dedicate my first post to my daughter, Rachael Peterson Suarez. For without her, Southern Oregon's Real Estate Cafe would not have become a reality.
Rachael was my real estate partner for 7 years in Grants Pass Oregon. We moved to Southern Oregon 12 years ago and immediately got our real estate licenses. We started with a regional Pacific Northwest franchise called Windermere. Fortunately, our dynamic duo quickly outgrew our cubicle there, so we 'graduated' to a private office at RE/MAX. After thriving there for several years, our cafe idea was born.
Unfortunately, the real estate market had other ideas. We watched and waited as our local market began to tumble along with the rest of the country in the latter half of 2006. Instead of starting our new venture, we began selling off our real estate holdings and held on for Mr. Toad's wild ride. And what a wild ride it was. During that time, Rachael married the man of her dreams and rode off into the California sunset for some wonderful job opportunities. I was devasted by her move, but happy for their new life together. Growing pains are never easy. But, I held onto my Real Estate Cafe dream and kept it alive in my heart and mind for a few more years.
After listening to Warren Buffett and becoming completely debt-free, I had a renewed sense of inspiration regarding Real Estate Cafe. In November of 2008, I decided to take the plunge and open my own brokerage. A gutsy move in the midst of a bad economy, but one of the best decisions I ever made. I'm feeling pretty blessed as I sit here penning this post. More than anything, I want Rachael to know that I wouldn't have had the guts, courage or inspiration to make this move without her. I owe my success to my daughter, a beautiful woman and new mother, and my best friend, who has more on the ball than I ever did at her age. Something good is brewing at Real Estate Cafe because of Rachael. Love you Rach ~ Mom
