Social Lubrication... You've Either Got It or You Don't! Have you ever had a conversation with someone and you thought they lacked a bit of social koof? Perhaps it might even be you! In this social age of instant technology and communication, some of us have lost our social lubrication. Huh, what's that?
Your filter... the thing in your head that says "Better not say that" or "Don't go there." Of course, we've all ignored the voice from time to time. I recently called someone "carrot-top" without thinking how my words might affect that person. At the very moment I blurted it, I totally regretted it!
While there is something to be said for telling it like it is... even liberating perhaps, the consequences of our 'mis-chosen' words can be devastating, both personally and professionally.
Practicing 'responsible' social lubrication means putting your thinking cap on before you speak (blog). It means choosing your words wisely because you can't take them back. Do we speak from a place of anger or resentment? Or do we speak eloquently, leaving a lasting 'positive' impression? Perhaps some of us could use a social lube job when it comes to our wagging tongues. Let's remember to practice the Golden Rule with our speech... for whatever you put out there, stays out there as a permanent record.
Social Lubrication... You've Either Got It or You Don't!
