Prostituting for a Paycheck... Right or Wrong? Have you done it... considered it... regretted it... or have known someone who has? It's certainly not as glamorous as Julia Roberts portrays in the movie, Pretty Woman. But, it appears to be a growing trend in our industry, which causes me to pause and ask the question... Is turning a cheap trick for a paycheck an act of ignorance or a necessary evil?
Some say, desperate times call for desperate measures... but that's not the reference I'm making here. I'm talking about someone who throws their moral compass out the window to score a deal. Is it ever right to do so?
Fortunately, I've never found myself in that kind of position. Although, I've witnessed several who have and I'm always perplexed at the fleeting and momentary satisfaction one gets from selling their soul to the devil... for money, power, ego or ? Chasing a paycheck in short shorts, fishnet stockings and black spiky boots might be exciting (some men excluded), but how will you feel about yourself on the morning after? Like a pro... or a two-bit hooker?
Obviously, I'm not actually referring to 'real' prostitution here. I'm talking about those who are willing to exchange the right thing to do, with the morally bankrupt thing to do, to get ahead. We make choices like this every day that affect our business. And sadly for some... making the wrong choice for the sake of personal gain is becoming a standard.
Some say, if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. I say, get a clue about such things before they happen to you. Don't wait until temptation stares you in the face before you decide the position you'll take... know your navigational co-ordinances beforehand. Having a moral compass will keep you out of major trouble before the poop hits the fan (or the beat hits the streets... as they say in prostitute land). Doing the right thing might not net you the biggest paycheck... but it beats walking the streets.
