Music... Soothes The Soul

Music... Soothes The SoulMusic... Soothes The Soul.  My early childhood memories were filled with jazz music and countless hours of listening to Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66.  While my kindergarten friends were still singing nursery rhymes, I was singing along to Mas Que Nada and The Look of Love.  There was something gripping about the music, it was different from anything I had ever heard before and I was taken by it.

I didn't learn until many years later, that Mas Que Nada means 'Come On, No Way or Yeah Right' in Brazilian Portuguese slang.  It's funny, because those words roll off this girl's tongue frequently these days!  Music has certainly shaped my soul in so many ways.  It was my invisible friend, my faithful companion, my way of escape, my path to discovery and my joy on the journey.  I've often said, that if I were left on a deserted island, and had to choose one thing to accompany me, I would choose music.

Today, I'm feeling a little sappy.  When I'm in this kind of mood, I look to some of my favorite artists like Sting, Chris Botti and Barbra Streisand to fill the void.  And when I'm done feeling introspective, I snap out of it with Colbie Caillat, Basia, Bruno Mars and Jo Dee Messina.  I can always count on music to lift my spirit and soothe my soul.  It's the cheapest mood-enhancement drug around... and it's this girl's drug of choice.  Music... Soothes The Soul ;-)
