Golden Nuggets & Cupcakes!

Mel Peterson & Susan Tokarz-Krauss - DC CupcakesGolden Nuggets & Cupcakes!  I just got back from a week in Anaheim California for the National Association of Realtors Convention.  I had the amazing honor of volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.  In addition to hitting the nail on the head, I had the yummy pleasure of gobbling up some inspiring messages and presentations at the conference.  SoCal happens to be my ole' stomping ground, so I felt right at home.  My hearty appetite kicked in from the gamut of fabulous restaurants with delectable apps... all calling my name in unison.  I felt hard-pressed to say no... so I didn't!

I have a big appetite for learning.  Recently, a friend asked me why I attend these conferences?  My answer... 'To acquire the golden nuggets.'  Knowledge is power... and in arenas such as this, I love to learn new tricks of the trade.  The apps are always delish and the entree is usually meaty!  And... at the end of the day (or in this case... week), I always feel better when I get in a good work-out too ;)

In addition to all things Realtor... I had the wonderful opportunity to hang out with some inspiring colleagues.  One in particular, Susan Tokarz-Krauss, is a gal with whom I'll serve side by side as President of our local MLS and Realtor Associations in 2012.  Susan is a sharp cookie with several irons in the fire.  I love to surround myself with peeps like Susan who challenge me to be simply better.  I was thrilled to partner with her last week on our Habitat for Humanity build, and I'm also looking forward to serving with her during our Presidencies in 2012.  I think the two of us could rock a few boats and do some real damage good for Southern Oregon

On our last trip to NAR's mid-year Conference in Washington DC, I lolly-gagged Susan into going with me to a cute little place in Georgetown, called DC Cupcake.  She was a good sport to stand out in the rain in a line that wrapped itself half-way around the block with people waiting to 'seriously' buy cupcakes (if only they were waiting to 'seriously' buy homes).  No doubt, the cupcakes were worth the wait!  And since that day, Susan and I have fondly referred to one another as Cupcake ;)

Here's to you Cupcake!
