“Danger, Will Robinson!”

“Danger, Will Robinson!” "Danger, Will Robinson!"  For those of us who grew up in the 60's, the classic Sci-Fi TV series, Lost In Space, was an adventurous one.  The familiar catch phrase "Danger, Will Robinson!" was a warning from the Robot to young Will Robinson that there was impending doom ahead.  It's a phrase that entered my mind this morning for a reason.

There are several one-way streets in Grants Pass Oregon.  Visitors and newcomers often miss the obvious signs and end up driving the opposite way on a one-way street.  Usually, it doesn't take them long to figure out the error of their ways.  Most Oregonians are pleasant folks and rarely honk their horns or yell at other motorists for dumbnut moves.  They typically sit and wait patiently until the confused driver figures out they're going in the wrong direction.

This morning, I saw the headlights coming my way.  My car was sandwiched between parked cars and another lane of traffic headed in the same direction.  Having no way of escape, and realizing we were headed for a bit of a  showdown, the catch phrase entered my head... "Danger, Will Robinson!"  I stopped my car and waited patiently for the approaching car to 'figure things out.'  Fortunately, she did, and I'm still here to tell about it.

It brings to mind another thought... How many times have we found ourselves, and others, uttering similar Robototic statements about the current real estate market... "Danger, Will Robinson!," "Warning, this does not compute?," or "We're doomed!"  Public perception has echoed these sentiments in recent years, causing a shift in probable realities.  Are we headed for more impending doom?  Maybe, maybe not.  It's interesting to note that the Robot, a blundering bucket of bolts, turned out to be a pretty wise tin can.
