Bum Makes Bogus Offer and Gets Busted. I thought I had heard every crazy real estate story out there, but I think this one takes the cake!
One of my agents told me about a very prominent listing she had in Grants Pass several years ago at a previous brokerage. Along came a phone call from a gentleman who was interested in seeing the place immediately. The Agent sent her partner to show the listing. The gentleman showed up nicely dressed and well spoken. After seeing the place, he wanted to write an offer. The partner asked if the gentleman had a car to follow him back to the office (as he showed up on foot), and the gentleman said his car was at a shop being serviced.
So, the two drove back to the office to make the "all cash" offer. The seller accepted. The Buyer disappeared. Approximately 3 weeks later, the Agent and her partner were strolling downtown for 1st Friday Night Art Walk in Grants Pass, and low and behold, there was the gentleman, sweeping the city sidewalks for the local Mission. Turns out, the gentleman was a bum... and a very clever one at that. The bum managed to make a bogus offer on a prime piece of real estate in Grants Pass, with one of the best Agents in town, then disappears, and gets busted sweeping sidewalks! Now, that's one for the books!
