Are You a Realtor Prostitute? Are you guilty of selling your soul to the devil for your next deal? If not, do you know someone who has or will? It's a legitimate question in our crazy, mixed-up business.
Do you ever find yourself saying "Yes" to something that you know you should have said "No" to, but you contemplated how much you needed the money? Did it ever occur to you that your actions might be a form of prostitution? Recently, a friend of mine told me she hated her job and she would like to quit, but she needs the money. Everyday, she's subjected to ridicule, insults and belittling from her boss. I asked why she would subject herself to such bad behavior. She said; "The money is good." I said; "Don't prostitutes say the same thing?"
I'm certain we've all found ourselves in a position of having asked these questions at one time or another in our careers. I don't know about you, but it seems like desperate times bring out the worst desperation in people... real estate agents included.
Self-respect is a core value that lies way beneath the surface. You either have it or you don't. Trying to get it, in the midst of a pressure cooker situation, usually doesn't work. When faced with a difficult decision or hardship, it's crucial that you decide in advance how you'll handle the situation with the utmost integrity and self-respect. If that means you need to say "No" to someone or something in order to preserve your value system, then so be it. A cheap trick lasts for a moment, but the effects of a bad decision lasts a lifetime. R-E-S-P-E-C-T yourself!
