This Dingleberry Forgot Her Winter Coat!

Where is my Winter Coat? This dingleberry forgot her winter coat!  Last week, I visited my family in Southern California for the Christmas holiday.  It seemed strange to wake up to sunny blue skies on Christmas Day in Los Angeles.  Although, there were no complaints from this Oregon Grandma!  Not only did I enjoy seeing my grandbaby, children, and family, I also enjoyed taking in the natural rays of sunshine and Vitamin D... for free :)

However, my 10-hour trek back to Southern Oregon was not so sunny.  I ran into a nasty winter storm on Interstate 5, just south of Shasta County.  Unfortunately, Interstate 5 was shut down for the evening due to snow, so I found a nice motel to stay the night in Redding, CA.

Before heading for Southern Oregon this morning, I checked the road conditions at TripCheck.com.  The roads were open but the storm warnings were still posted.  I searched my trunk for snow chains... no problem.  But after searching for my winter coat, I realized that I forgot to pack it.  My mind raced to thoughts of putting on chains in freezing cold snow without a winter coat.  What a dingleberry I was, to not pack a winter coat.  What was I thinking!?!

Off I went.  Lucky for me, I made it all the way to Grants Pass Oregon without having to put on chains.  Yeah!  Hopefully, this is the last time this dingleberry will forget her winter coat!

The Perks for Brewing Coffee with Cinnamon

Cinnamon CoffeeThe Perks for brewing coffee with cinnamon are like combining apple pie and vanilla ice cream... they just go together.  There's nothing quite like the aroma of freshly brewed coffee with a hint of cinnamon.  If you have never tasted the two together, you should add it to your New Year's Resolution for 2010.

Cinnamon boasts some fabulous health properties.  Studies have shown that just 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL cholesterol.  Several studies suggest that cinnamon regulates blood sugar.  In some studies, cinnamon has shown an amazing ability to stop medication-resistant yeast infections.  And, in a study published by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Maryland, cinnamon reduced the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells.  It has an anti-clotting effect on the blood and it has been shown that it provides significant relief for arthritis sufferers.  When added to food, it inhibits bacterial growth and food spoilage, making it a natural food preservative.  One study found that smelling cinnamon boosts cognitive function and memory.  Researchers at Kansas State University found that cinnamon fights the E. coli bacteria in unpasteurized juices.  Cinnamon is also a great source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.

So, next time you are brewing up your favorite cup of coffee, consider adding a hint of cinnamon.

A Simple Guide to Get You on the Road Again in 2010'

Blazing the Oregon Trail in 2010'

A Simple Guide to Get You on the Road Again in 2010'.  For most of us, 2009' presented some unexpected twists and turns.  And, in some cases, many of us were hoping for a few U-turns, wishing we could go back and right some wrong turns we have taken in our journey of life.  But, keeping with the old saying; "Hindsight is 20/20," perhaps there is something we can learn from the rocky roads we have traveled this year.

To reach your destination in 2010, it might be a good idea to carry along a road map or navigational system to guide your way.  There's nothing worse than wasting precious time and energy trying to find your way on the highway to success without the proper tools to help get you there.  Avoiding confusing signs and traffic jams will make your trip much more pleasant and stress-free.

Before embarking on your journey, take out a 3x5 index card and write the following coordinances on it (i.e. business, personal, spiritual).  One liner navigational goals work the best, and you'll find it is the perfect way to stay inspired on the road.  I have found that when I place the index card where I can see it often, it helps me get to where I am going a little faster and with more focus.  Not too mention, it's in keeping with the KISS Principle too!  A Simple Guide to Get You on the Road Again in 2010'

10 Ideas for a Better Blog in 2010

10 Ideas for a Better Blog in 201010 Ideas for a Better Blog in 2010.  You don't have to be brilliant to create a better blog in 2010.  You simply need to let your right brain marry your left brain, to produce some creative offspring that could quite possibly rejuvenate your blog and your real estate business in 2010

While many of us have a natural tendency toward one way of thinking, the two sides of our brain are constantly working together to create harmony in our every day lives.  Our "right brain" tends to focus on the visual, and processes information in an intuitive and simultaneous way, looking first at the whole picture then the details.  Our "left brain" is more verbal, processing information in an analytical and sequential way, looking first at the pieces then putting them together to get the whole picture.

10 Ideas for a Better Blog in 2010In sort of an unfortunate fashion, I was able to grasp the left-brain, right-brain picture at a very young age.  Many of you know, I grew up with a single-mother who had Multiple Sclerosis the majority of my life.  She was an extremely coordinated left-handed woman.  However, over time, the Multiple Sclerosis paralized the left side of her body and she could no longer write with her left hand.  That did not stop her.  My mother immediately picked up a pen and taught herself how to write with her right hand.  At each milestone of her disease (from walking with a cane, to a walker, to a wheelchair), I watched my mother transform her debilitating disease into triumphant determination.

Determination is often the key to any success.  I recently heard basketball star LeBron James quote his junior high school basketball coach, who said: "Discipline, not desire, determines our destiny."  Certainly, this morsel of truth can apply to anything we set our minds to in this life.  Blogging included!  So, getting back to the 10 ideas for a better blog in 2010... practice engaging both sides of your brain, in order to better engage your audience.  There are 10 basic left/right brain cognitive functions (see below) that you can use to marry this principle for a better blog and perhaps a more successful real estate business.  Success equals the sum of all the parts.  ENJOY!

Left Brain

Analytical - Logical - Looks at Parts - Objective - Rational

Right Brain

Synthesizing - Random - Looks at Whole - Subjective - Intuitive

Is Your Water Safe to Drink?

Is Your Water Safe to Drink? Is Your Water Safe to Drink?  The New York Times recently featured a series about the worsening pollution in American waters and regulators' response.  "The 35-year-old federal law regulating tap water is so out of date that the water Americans drink can pose what scientists say are serious health risks - and still be legal," says the NY Times.

Is Your Water Safe to Drink? - Click Here to find out.

Examine whether contaminants in your water supply met two standards: the legal limits established by the Safe Drinking Water Act, and the typically stricter health guidelines. The data was collected by an advocacy organization, the Environmental Working Group, who shared it with The Times.
